Take a tour through our women's weaving cooperative just below the kitchen where you can learn about traditional Guatemalan techniques of spinning cotton, dyeing string, and weaving beautiful textiles. We will take you through the entire process from harvesting the cotton to turning it into traje típico (traditional dress) and other local products. You can even take a class with our women and learn how to weave a scarf! This cooperative started with 5 women and is now supporting over 25 women around Lake Atitlán through economic opportunities and extra meals from Mayan Kitchen cooking classes. Each woman receives 75% of the profits made from selling their products in our shop. Through the support of the community, we hope to open the doors for more local women and their families to take part in this initiative. |
